Finding it difficult to find unbiased reviews of today’s top electric pressure cookers. If so, then you’ve come to the right place. After all, not all pressure cookers are created equal. And, while one may have the features that you’re looking for, it’s important to find out if the cons may outweigh the pros before you make your purchase.
One of the top 20 electric pressure cookers on the market today is the Emeril CY4000001 6 qt. Electric Pressure Cooker by T-fal. It offers a variety of time saving features, and its ease of use, but is it really worth the investment? In this review, we’ll give you a detailed look at the advantages of this product, as well as some of the drawbacks that you may want to keep in mind. We will also let you know how it stacks up against other top models, so that you can reassured that you’re getting the pressure cooker that’s just right for you.
The Emeril Electric Pressure Cooker has a six quart capacity. It measures 14.1 x 14.1 x 16.5 inches. The shipping weight of the product is also around 15 pounds.
The product includes a 6-Quart nonstick cookware inner pot, which is also dishwasher safe. Bonuses that accompany the appliance are a high quality steamer bowl and a recipe book, which features 47 recipies from emeril and t-fal, so that you can test out your new cooker by making delicious meals right away.
This model sells for about $120.00 plus shipping and handling online.
This pressure cooker has fully automatic settings, which allow you to simply press a button to set the perfect time, pressure, and temperature for your meal. The LED display feature a countdown timer, enabling you to see exactly when you’re meal will be ready to serve.
The 6-Quart nonstick inner pot that’s included is coated with a non-stick material, making it easier to clean after meal preparation, and the unit comes standard with a recipe book that was created by famed chef, Emeril Lagasse and T-Fal (a trusted name in cooking ware).
For added peace of mind, the appliance also features a hermetically sealed locking lid, that allows all of the heat, food odors, and steam to stay in, and keeps the bacteria out. This also insures that your food is more nutritious and flavorful, thanks to the fact that the natural vitamins and minerals stay where they belong.
One of the most significant advantages to owning this T-Fal pressure cooker is that it does a little bit of everything. Not only does it pressure cook meats to perfection, but it also makes a great stew, chili, or casserole. Best of all, it does all of this about 70% faster than if I would have prepared the same foods on the stove top. You can roast an entire chicken in under half an hour (depending upon its size, of course), and can whip up a side dish quickly and conveniently.
Also, there’s virtually no clean up to take care of after you’ve prepared your meal, given that the appliance includes a non-stick inner pot. You can even prepare beans (without soaking them overnight in most cases, I might add), and clean them up afterward in a matter of seconds.
The other functions it offers, such as browning and sauteing are also great time savers. You can do everything in one pot, without having to worry about purchasing other appliances that will do the same tasks.
I thought I should also mention that the cook book included with the cooker is an actual book, rather than the thin pamphlet that usually comes with appliances of this type. The fact that Emeril Lagasse helped to create the recipes is a big plus, as well. They’ll give you the chance to make restaurant style meals quickly (and for much less), so you’ll definitely want to try some of them out once you receive your cooker.
There are, however, a few setbacks to owning this particular pressure cooker that I thought were worth mentioning. First of all, it is rather large. Plan on it taking up a good deal of space on your counter top or in your cabinets.
Next, the directions that it comes with aren’t particularly clear. You may have to look online in order to find out just how to use it if you’re new to pressure cooking, or you can call the company’s help line to see if they can provide you with any assistance.
Also, you’ll want to be sure not to use metal utensils when you’re stirring the contents or removing them, as the bottom surface of the inner pot is prone to scratching. Instead, you’ll want to opt for soft silicone utensils. The inserts themselves can be quite difficult to get a hold of, and you need that insert to stay intact if you want to keep using the appliance safely.
Lastly, it would have been nice if the exterior was a bit more aesthetically pleasing and easier to clean. Many models in this price range feature brushed stainless steel finishes, but this one does not. It’s a bit taller, as well, especially when compared to other units of the same capacity.
The Bottom Line…
I highly recommend this electric pressure cooker if you are looking for a model that is easy to clean up, relatively easy to use, and is constructed to a very high standard. However, it is at the higher end of the price range scale, especially considering that most of the other highly rated electric pressure cookers that we’ve reviewed on this site are under $100.
Overall, this unit is great for those who want a durable product that is pretty simple and straightforward to use, and are willing to pay a bit more to get it. Otherwise, you may want to opt for another more affordable electric pressure cooker. With that being said, you’ll definitely want to consider purchasing this one if you want an appliance that’s going to stand the test of time and provide you with wholesome, delicious, and quickly prepared meals for years to come.
