The Features of the Nesco Pressure cooker…

This unit offers a wide variety of features, including a control panel that is easy to read and use, which includes soft push button controls. There is also a precision thermostat that allows you to constantly monitor the cooking temp inside of the unit, to insure that you have full control over how the appliance is preparing your foods.

The Nesco Pressure Cooker offers four different functions: pressure cooking, browning, simmering, and sauteing. However, there is also a warming feature that you can switch on in order to keep your foods piping hot until you are ready to eat. The locking lid will stay secured until the pressure has been fully released, to insure that the flavors are sealed into your foods, and that no steam is allowed to escape during the cooking process.

The Pros…

Despite the fact that this is a small electric pressure cooker, it has a number of pros that may just prompt you to click that buy button (even if you are looking for a larger capacity). The cool touch handle and lid are a nice perk, since you won’t have to worry about burning yourself on the unit while it is on. This is particularly useful if you have children in the home. Also, the self locking lid feature is included for added safety.

Another thing about the nesco pressure cooker that stands out about this unit is that it is so versatile. You can practically make an entire meal from start to finish, even if there are several cooking steps involved. For instance, if you want to make a nice roast for dinner, you can brown the roast before pressure cooking it, and then even simmer it in a nice broth afterward for added flavor and texture. This can all be done with just this one appliance, rather than dirtying another pot or pan.

As for clean up, it doesn’t get much easier than the Nesco pressure cooker PC4-14. You simply remove the inner pot, which is non stick, and place it right into the dishwasher. You won’t need to worry about having to clean off stuck-on meats or veggies. The unit also comes with a cooking rack which easily fits into the inner pot, which is a wonderful bonus.

The Cons…

There are a few drawbacks to the nesco pressure cooker that I thought were worth mentioning. Firstly, the fact that the pressure cooker only goes up to 10 PSI is a bit disappointing, given that a majority of the recipes you’ll find online and in cookbooks call for 15PSI. So, you will have to adjust the cooking time if you are opting to use a recipe.

Also, the fact that it does only hold 4 quarts can be a problem, especially if you are looking for a cooker that can feed a large family or is able to fit a large roast or chicken. So, this particular model is probably better suited for individuals or couples who just want to make smaller all-in-one-meals or main dishes.

Lastly, it can sometimes take quite awhile to actually go into the pressurized cooking mode, especially if you’re used to stove top pressure cookers. So, you’ll need to keep that in mind when figuring out when to start your meal prep. This is particularly the case if you are entertaining guests and want everything to be ready by the time they arrive (as was the case with me).

The Bottom Line…

I highly recommend the nesco pressure cooker for anyone who is looking for a model that does it all. From cooking rice to making the perfect pot roast in a fraction of the time, this appliance will allow you to make a delicious, nutrient rich meal from start to finish.

With that being said, if you are in search of a model that can make larger meals and bulky food items, such as a whole chicken, then you may want to opt for the similarly priced Secura EPC-S600, which has a six quart capacity. That model will take up more space on your counter though. So, if you want a space saving appliance over one that offers a greater capacity, then I suggest you stick with the Nesco Pressure Cooker.
