The Specs…

The Nesco PC6-25P Electric Programmable Pressure Cooker has a six quart capacity. It measures 12.6 x 12.6 x 18.2 inches, and weighs about 13.5 pounds. The shipping weight of the product is roughly 14 pounds if you’re purchasing it online.

The housing of the appliance is made of brushed stainless steel, and includes a cool touch lid and handles, for added safety. The product also features a removable dishwasher-safe inner pot, which is coated with non-stick materials for easy clean up.

This Nesco Pressure Cooker sells for around $75.00 plus shipping and handling.

The Features…

This pressure cooker doesn’t fall short when it comes to useful features.  In fact, it offers you the ability to carry out three different functions by using just one appliance. You can pressure cook, slow cook (for up to 9.5 hours), or even brown your meats before cooking. The cooker also enables you to steam vegetables and other foods, as well as reheat leftovers.

It features a self locking lid for added safety, as well as an automatic (or manual) pressure release option. The LED display is easy to use and features soft touch buttons, which offer you the ability to access a variety of programmed presets that make cooking your favorite meals a cinch.

There is also a delayed start option, wherein you can arrange for the unit to begin cooking up to 8 hours in advance. That means you can set it at night before you go to bed, and have a wonderful pot of warm porridge ready for you when you get up the next morning.

This model includes an inner pot that is removable and dishwasher-safe. So, you won’t have to worry about spending vast amounts of time in the kitchen cleaning up pots and pans after your meal.

The Pros…

One of the most significant benefits of owning the  Nesco PC6-25P is that it reaches a higher PSI which is very rare for many similarly priced models. Many hover around 9 PSI, in fact. Many pressure cooker recipes are actually based upon a 15 PSI measurement, which means that (if you are using the manual setting option) you can more accurately adjust the directions that are included in the recipe.

On the other hand, the preset options are wonderful as well. You can just add in the ingredients, put on the lid, push a button, and get cooking. You won’t have to spend a great deal of time trying to figure out exactly how long you’ll have to leave a chicken or roast in there for, as the machine will do all of the calculating for you thanks to the programmed settings. Also, the pre-set options can be overridden, which is also unusual for electric pressure cookers.

Another thing that I’d like to point out is that this appliance is great at pressure cooking, but also wonderful when it comes to slow cooking. That means that you don’t have to buy an additional slow cooker on the side (big money and time saver).

Lastly, the warming feature is fantastic. You can come home to a nice big pot of stew or a nice hot roast, without having to worry about it cooling down after it’s finished cooking your meal. This is also great for entertaining, because you can just set it and leave it until you’re ready to serve to your guests.

The Cons…

There is very little that I can say about this appliance that will shed a negative light. It does exactly what it says it will do in the product description, and can make your food taste better (and even more nutritious). However, I feel that I should point out just a couple of things that you may want to consider before purchasing.

Firstly, it would be great if they included a rack that was rust-resistant, as the one that comes standard with the unit can begin to discolor over time. Also, the unit can take quite some time to actually built up pressure. So, you’ll want to account for that when preparing your meal. For example, if you’re getting a stew ready for guests coming over that night, start it a half hour earlier than you normally would.

In addition, the cooking surface is made out of Teflon, so if you don’t care for a non-stick surface then you may want to go with another model, such as the Instant Pot IP-LUX60. Also, you can easily damage the non-stick surface, so be sure to only use soft utensils when stirring the contents.

The Bottom Line…

The Nesco PC6-25P Electric Pressure Cooker does not disappoint when it comes to pressure cooking, and even slow cooking. The best part is the price point, given that it retails typically for under $80, but is still extremely efficient and easy to use.

Overall, this is the perfect electric pressure cooker if you you’re looking for one that doesn’t necessarily have all of the bells and whistles, but is still able to cook meats, stews, and side dishes to perfection. However, if you’re looking for one that carries out a multitude of functions, such as steaming rice, then you may want to opt for another higher priced model.
