TATUNG TPC6L 10 Cup Electric Pressure Cooker

December 28, 2013

Pressure cookers have come a long way since the manual stove top models were introduced. As a matter of fact, the electric pressure cookers you’ll find on the market today are not only safer, but can make meal prep a cinch. Not to mention that they allow your foods to keep more of their nutrients and vitamins, given that you don’t have to use as much liquid to actually cook your meals. Seeing as how modern technological advancements have made the pressure cooker a must-have kitchen gadget, I thought that I would try out one of the top rated models…the TATUNG TPC6L 10 Cup Electric Pressure Cooker.

Not to give too much away right at the start, I have to admit that I was, overall, quite pleased with this Tatung product. It has a wide range of features. And, while its “keep warm” function can be handy, it can also make things a bit challenging when you’re trying to prepare items that may require longer cooking items. To see what I thought about the TATUNG Pressure Cooker, have a look at my detailed review, which includes the product’s features, as well as its pros and cons.

The Pros…

First, let me begin by saying that this is a great pressure cooker. It’s versatile, and can cook rice, stews, and soups in a fraction of the time that it would take on the stove top. Meats come out of the cooker juicy and flavorful, and grains are light and fluffy.

The fact that it comes with a wide range of pre-set functions is a big perk, given that you don’t have to worry about overcooking or under cooking any food items. Essentially, this cooker takes all of the guesswork out of pressure cooking. No need to concern yourself with the length of time you’ll need to leave it in for, or the PSI you’ll need to set it to.

The keep warm mode is also wonderful, given that you can ensure that you’ll have piping hot meals when you come home from a long day at work, even if it’s finished actually cooking hours before.

The lid is detachable, which makes it really easy to clean. Most other models don’t have lids that do this (or it is extremely difficult to do so), so this is a big pro for this unit. And, lastly, the stainless steel that’s used is durable and not prone to denting, which is far better than the aluminum inner pots that many other cookers use.

The Cons…

The biggest con of this product is its short cooking time. In fact, you only set it for up to one hour. This can be problematic if you’re planning on making something that requires a lengthy stay in the cooker. After this hour is up, you’ll have to restart the cooker, if you are using its manual timer.

Also, the keep warm mode may be great for some foods, but not for others. For example, if you are planning on using this as a rice steamer, then this can leave your rice dry and sticky. And, you aren’t able to switch this mode off, which is a bit disappointing. As such, this may not be the best option if you are looking for a pressure cooker that specializes in rice or other grains.

Yet another setback is that you will have to use an independent socket for the TATUNG Pressure Cooker (which may difficult to pull off if you have a number of things already plugged into your kitchen outlets).

Last, but certainly not least, one of the most significant cons of this product is not the unit itself, but the manual. It’s quite disorganized and unclear, which can make it challenging to operate the appliance, especially for new pressure cooker users.

The Bottom Line…

This pressure cooker is ideal if you’re looking for an appliance that can perfectly cook meats, stews, and vegetables, and have them hot and ready for you when you arrive home. The manufacturer has a proven track record of high quality products, and the TATUNG TPC6L 10 Cup Electric Pressure Cooker does not disappoint in that regard.

However, it’s not the most affordable model on the market today, and there are others out there, such as the MaxiMatic EPC-808 Elite Platinum that are far more versatile and more budget friendly. Despite this, the Tatung electric pressure cooker is perfect for those who want a variety of programmed settings and are planning on using the product primarily for pressure cooking meats and all-in-one meals.
